MIZUNO MP20-HMB IRONS

Whilst Mizuno true bladed irons are unquestionably beautiful and feel like nothing else when struck correctly, the truth is that many golfers who would like to use them simply don’t create enough speed or strike the ball consistently enough for them to be a viable option.

Fortunately, the designers at Mizuno Golf have provided these golfers with an excellent solution, the Mizuno MP-20 HMB iron. Inspired in part by the large number of tour professionals that have started to use long iron replacements, the MP-20 HMB carries the same concept from the long irons all the way through to the pitching wedge.

The HMB iron is another stunning looking iron from Mizuno and looks like a full blade when resting in a golf bag. Behind the ball, it does look slightly bigger than a true blade with a slightly thicker top line and profile and offers a more confidence-inspiring aesthetic. The hollow body construction is well hidden and sightlines are still clean and compact.

Mizuno’s ground breaking Chromoly Face is used in the HMB which allows them to alter the thickness of the face and brings the high ball speeds from the JPX range over to the MP range of clubs without compromising on feel.

One of the most appealing aspects of the Mizuno MP-20 HMB is to use it in a blended set. Many golfers feel fairly comfortable when using a blade or cavity blade in the shorter irons but feel less so when using a bladed long iron. The HMB is an excellent option to create a mixed set, having them in the bag from 4 iron to 6 iron with the MP-20 MMC in 7 and 8 iron and then the MP-20 MB in the 9 and wedge is becoming an incredibly popular choice.

The HMB is unquestionably the most forgiving iron in the MP range, with tungsten weights in the heel and toe allowing for more clubhead speed on off-centre strikes. It also has the strongest lofts (although not super strong) which creates lower spinning iron shots and therefore more distance, as the high launching design ensures peak height is unaffected.

If you are an improving player that wants to make the jump into a more players style club, then the Mizuno MP-20 is perhaps the best-looking option on the market and is an excellent blend of performance and feel.
